About Lana Segerman, LCSW‑C

Lana Segerman

I am an experienced psychotherapist for adults, both individuals and couples. I bring warmth, compassion, and expertise to each therapy session, with the goal of helping you realize your own inner healing potential. I offer you a safe and nonjudgmental space where you will be understood.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I had a long and successful career in architectural graphic design. As an architectural designer, my understanding of the innate human need to connect with the surrounding environment enabled me to create meaningful and personal connections between people and the places that they visit and inhabit. It then became a natural transition for me to move to a career in psychotherapy.

I earned a master’s degree in social work from Catholic University’s National Catholic School of Social Service and am licensed as a clinical social worker in Washington, DC, and Maryland.

I began my psychotherapy career as part of a primary care medical practice where I participated in patient care and evaluation to offer collaborative mind-body care. I also gained experience in trauma therapy, working with patients in the Behavioral Health Unit of Johns Hopkins Medicine/Sibley Memorial Hospital. Now, in my private practice as a psychotherapist, I use my life experience to inform my work with individuals and couples.

As part of my moving forward with the ever advancing field of psychology I am Level 1 and Level 2 Certified in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO) couples therapy from the IFS Institute. I also hold certification from the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).

In my psychotherapy practice, I primarily draw upon IFS and IFIO. Additionally, I use proven forms of therapy such as CBT, psychodynamics, and a neurobiological approach to therapy, as well as a combination of mind and body therapies such as self-compassion and mindfulness.

I believe in therapy and the innate strengths of each and every one of my clients. I am humbled by what I have learned from people about their innate strengths, their courage to change, and their ability to heal.
